After looking around, I have 2 questions that the list might be able to
answer and hopefully will start some discussion:

1.) I saw in the j3d.org FAQ that the utility classes support double
channel stereo.  Does the Windows implementation include EAX hardware
support via DirectSound or OpenAL?

2.) I'm currently reading through the Advanced Renderman book, and a lot
of the functionality the rib language can be done with Java3D except for
shaders.  With hardware supporting Vertex and Pixel shaders, can
Materials/Apperance(s) support all the desired functionality?
