Import and export of IGES format would be great.......
But with as much trouble as I have with various CAD packages using IGES, I doubt it
will ever work consistantly with Java3D.
The IGES standard has so many holes in it, it will never be a truly practical data
fromat. For instance have you ever tried to open an IGES file in Unigraphics that was
created in Catia? Our company has been trying for six months and still have not been
successful. The problem is that if you don't have control of the export, you can never
know how to setup the import.
I always tell people, "if you want a perfect example of how NOT to write a data spec,
take a look at IGES"
Anyway, that's just my opinion. I'd still like a Java3D import/export class, for the
few times it might work.
