No, you're not off base.  I've heard ppl at Sun saying that they plan on
integrating JMF interfaces into the MediaContainer in J3D.  But as it
stands today, that interoperability does not exist.   Plus, JMF is a big
chunk that I'm not really interested in forcing users to download.
Instead, we have found a free standalonge MP3 decoder that is much
smaller that the whole of JMF.

When it comes to video, I may have to go the JMF route, but video is not
necessary yet.  I have seen the demo and it is pretty cool.

JMF has no troubles playing mp3 files. Plz do disregard this posting if
