     At first glance:  Both Java 3D and PHIGS are
programming interfaces for 3D graphics.  PHIGS is more
procedure-oriented: write really long programs using
existing structs, then run them.  Java 3D is more
object-oriented: build lots of reusable objects on top
of provided classes, write rather short programs for
using them, then run them.

     To date, no known Java 3D classes exist that
export to VRML, but there are quite a few that can
import VRML files.  More information can be found at
