Hi all , i've been fiddling around with multitexturing and if i have
understood correctly TexCoordGeneration modes SPHERE_MAP and EYE_LINEAR can
be used to producing an environmentmapping type effect.
The EYE_LINEAR mode seems to behave differently if you have more than one
TextureUnitState in your Appearance,
I've used it to create metal and glass effects for certain objects, as it
seems to provide better looking "warping" than SPHERE_MAP in some cases, but
it loses the "warping" quality if i want to have a basis texture and
environment mapping on top of that. Am i even using it the right way? The
SPHERE_MAP mode doesn't "warp" too much, so it doesnt really look like
envmapping.
Also the SPHERE_MAP produces weird looking mapping when applied to a cube, 4
faces get nice looking mapping, but 2 faces get almost a solid colour.
Could someone with more experience in j3d texturing explain these things a
bit, or point a link or something?
thanks.
