Hi all,
maybe some of you remember my name. I was an farely active member of this
list a few months ago and but finally managed to bring my paper to a final
form. Because I think this will probably be of interest to some of you, and don't
know a proper place where to talk about it, I will send you the abstract. If
you have further questions, or are interested in the whole paper, which is
only available in german, please feel free to either write to me at

Title: Development of a software component to intuitively enter structures
of buildings and networks in a modul of a network planning tool
Author: Andreas Ebbert, 2000
Abstract:
Goal of this work was the analysis, design and implementation of a new
modul, which integrates into the existing toolkit NetPro. NetPro eases the
planning of local area computer networks. The new component should enable the user
to enter complex data of buildings and networks. This data has been modeld
during OOA to a set of classes, added to the NetPro base classes, shared by all
components. The main focus was the design and implementation of a GUI that
can be used intuitivly. To accomplish this goal, modern software engineering
tools and methods were used as for example, a requirements document, use of
design patterns and realisation of MVC. In order to loosly couple all Views, an
easily extensible and powerfull event flow was developed, which leads to an
easy GUI design with high user flexibility. Java 3D was explored and used in
this work to create an virtual reality, which is displayed to, and directly
editable by the user. Attention during development was also laid on creating
reusable concepts and components where possible. Due to time constraints, not
all NetPro base class models could be transported to the GUI, only those to
prove the DUI design complete. Missing are namely rooms, networkelements and
network connections.
Best Regards,
Andreas Ebbert
P.S. Thanks for your support during my work on my diploma :-)
