Just make sure your virus scanner is up to date (and I mean up to date as these days you need to keep on top of it) and you should not have a problem. Norton picked up all the current virus attachments from this list and I use outlook, which is an incredibly useful PIM tool apart from just email.

The problem is not the email clients, it's your virus scanner:-) Something we have to live with in todays environment.

It's annoying to get them, but with good tools you can minimise the risk and still have attachments.

Perhaps if everyone stopped using Microsoft email clients we wouldn't have this problem!  Please don't ban/stop attachements, they're very useful in this list.

Personally I think attachments are useful in this type of forum. Especially when a jpg is worth a hundred lines of code ;-) Can we not just block messages from the offending email address: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ? This seems the best solution to me. It's likely he doesn't know he's affected and the virus is replying to all his incoming email. josh

Easiest way is for the list admins to ban attachments to the list. They
either get stripped or the email gets bounced completely. The listserv
software that Sun is using for this list, it is just a one line config
change (if it's the software I think they are using!). Coincidently that
would also get rid of all attachments like images and large code chunks
and that would make me very happy too :)

As usual, hassle the list admins (easiest to find at
archives.java.sun.com) or at least see if we can get one of the J3D team
(maybe Micheal) to hassle the list admins....
