I am writing a simulation program that boils down to plotting multiple
points (or 3D objects)
in space with a very flat box to represent the ground, a third person view, and a
first person
view w.r.t. a point. During execution points will be added, removed and moved. During
execution
the user can rotate the universe, zoom in/out, and change points of view(only one
point of view
is on screen at any time).

My question is:

What are the tradeoffs and design considerations between inserting multiple locales
for each
point (or object) or having one locale to serve as origin with a translation
transform for each
object? Is one better over the other for performance? Is one better over the other for
image quality?
Is one easier to manage on the code development side?
