Actually, I think I have fixed this problem on several computers
(running Win2K) by going to Control Panel, then Mouse, then the
"Pointers" tab.  There should be a check box at the bottom left saying
"Enable pointer shadow".  Disabling this has fixed the flashing for me
in many cases.

Let me know if this fixes your problem... perhaps we could put this in
the Java3D FAQ if it does.
