The Cosm team is publishing two technologies which we have/are developing as part of our online world development. Both are available now from Source Forge. ARMI: Fast, compact, asynchronous Java messaging system. Replacement for Java RMI. Pronounced the same as "army". http://sourceforge.net/projects/armi/ AutoUpdator: Java AutoUpdater is an API and a program to automatically install code from a web server to a client. Clients running it will mirror the target directory structure from the server. Supports compressed server files and incremental updates. http://sourceforge.net/projects/autoupdater/ *supports versioning of your distributions with the ability to easily retrieve old versions if desired *very small download, ~20k *supports downloading the client files compressed *can download non-Java distributions *java applications don't need to do any special security manipulation since they must be run by the user as a regular java application *requires no special server-side support, just a specific directory structure on any web server Also if you are interested in auto updating technologies you should also check out JavaWebStart: *can determine which JRE the client needs and automatically download the JRE if necessary *easier to release distributions *supported by Sun; lots of documentation already available *download about 5.5 meg *after downloading, can start java applications as if they were regular applications on the PC or run them through the browser For specific information, questions or queries you can direct e-mails to Bobby Martin at [EMAIL PROTECTED] David Yazel Cosm Development Team http://www.cosm-game.com/ =========================================================================== To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and include in the body of the message "signoff JAVA3D-INTEREST".
