There are known problems with our installer and the 1.4 Beta VM. Is that what you are using? If so, This is bug 4464766. You can keep tabs on the status of the bug here: http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade If you're not using 1.4, check the size of the executable file to make sure it's the same as the expected size listed on the website.
