You can animate VRML models with Java3d using
the VRML Loaders developed by Sun and donated
to the Web3d.org ...
I've been working doing animation with VRML
and Java 1.1, and Java3d for several years,
it's a great combination, it works well, its fun,
you can animate Web3d's H-Anim Avatars with
them ... even though Justin Couch and Aaron Walsh
have said the VRML Loaders developed by Sun
and graciously donated to Web3d.org don't work ...
they do ... and the Prentice Hall book by Walsh ...
is wrong, which really unfortunately and harmfull to us.

( people complained about my overly simple MiniMan
being too simple, even though he is the first H-Anin Avatar
to Play Darts on the Web on Win-Lin-Mac & can play Chess
( or at least move the Chess pieces for you, ahem, in real time ):

I've used the Morpher Demo, and have different Morphers too ...
"Morph Animation with Java VRML EAI ( VRML plug-in required )
---------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.frontiernet.net/~imaging/morphing_animation.html
A year ago Aaron Walsh was self-promoting & cross-posting
about Morph Nodes with "Object-Oriented" PROTOs to do
Morphing, and Pulse?! ... I always thought Java provided a
better solution, better ability to read & write files on a network,
support ( TRUE ) object-oriented-programming, run on
Windows, Linux, Solaris, SGI, etc without those little,
incompatible VRML plug-in viewers ... you know:
Portable, Standards Compliant, Works on the Web: Web 3d.
You have a Web browser, you get 3d, Web 3d: VRML & Java.
I thought he was silly and giving really bad advice ... I didn't think
it was a good idea, a bad idea really, and said so ... I thought
Java and Java3d were the way to go ... what ever happened to
Aaron Walsh's idea of "Object-Oriented Programming with PROTOs"
as being better than Java ... does he still believe that ? did he ever
believe that was a good idea ? it really made no sence at all.
What type of animation do you want to do ?
I use Math & a Keyboard, Java & VRML, and "any computer" ;^)
I've done VRML animation with Java3d, VRML EAI (with VRML plug-ins),
with Shout3d ( without Java3d ) and Java programs I've writtnen by myself,
sometimes using VRML created on-fly, or from other Java programs, a lot
of people have done a lot of stuff ...
While unethical people at UPenn take your tax dollars and
sabatoge the cooperation between H-Anim and Java3d when
they are being paid to do exactly the opposite, we do
H-Anim with Java3d ( even though Walsh, Couch & Prentice Hall
say you can't ).
If ** ANYONE *** at the National Science Foundation
is interested in advancing our National interests or Science
please contact Prentice Hall and ask them to correct their
errors, they have ignored my calls and letters ( as you have
ignored things you really, really, really should not ignore ).
That would help those of working on Human Animation
with Web3d's H-Anim with Java3d ( and without ).
NSF guys: It's your job & our money.

and it's unfortunate that someone from U Penn wrote vulgar, slanderous
things ( which would be both illegal and unethical ) to both the
Java3d and H-Anim groups, and that your book says
H-Anim & Java3d don't work together, when they do.

cc: Prentice Hall ( Please Respond! Correct your errors! )
Be advised the "Core Web3d" book from Prentice Hall
by Aaron Walsh is innacurate and falsely states that
the VRML Loaders from Sun can't be used to animate
Web3d's H-Anim Avatars ... they can ...
Prentice Hall & Aaron Walsh have been advised of the
error in the book and their web site and have not
corrected their error, Aaron Walsh and Prentice Hall
should not be considered to be reliable sources of
information, their false statements does harm to
those of us working with VRML, H-Anim, & Java3d.
