Have you looked at setting the capability bit
"Node.ENABLE_PICK_REPORTING"
on a BranchGroup ? On setting this capability on a BG, the BG
will be reported in the SG path, and then you can do
result.getNode( PickResult.BRANCH_GROUP ) just as you want to.
