De ja vu all over again... I proposed a somewhat similar effort in my book, "3D User Interfaces with Java 3D" (see www.manning.,com/barrilleaux), and even called my framework a first step on the road to attaining a "Swing 3D". At the time I did not suggest open source, but as I've told individuals who have inquired, I'd contribute the code if there were sufficient interest.
To date interest on this list and in 3D in general has been towards rendering and efficiency issues rather than on good user interfaces (with the exception of simple orbit and flying navigation, and the endless problems that people seem to have with them). If there is now sufficient interest, my earlier offer to contribute the book software still stands. --jon > -----Original Message----- > From: Silvere Martin-Michiellot [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Friday, October 05, 2001 6:31 AM > Subject: Proposition: develop Swing3D > > > Hi, > > > I'm currenty thinking of developping an open source project > concerning the realisation of a 3D GUI interface system for Java 3D > based on Swing.
