If you want to draw a map on a surface, then the best way is to create a texture with your map and apply it to the surface instead of trying to draw the lines over it in the 3D space. For example, you could create a BufferedImage, draw your map into it's graphics context, and then use that BufferedImage to texture some Shape3D.
