The "infraction" Mr. Flavin was enraged by was my post here:
  http://www.web3d.org/WorkingGroups/h-anim/hypermail/2001/0135.html
in which I said:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Hi all,

I just wanted to echo Justin's comments here... See the attached
    from the Java3D mailing list...

    -Matt
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Mr. Flavin was apparently aggravated by one piece of vulgar slang, which
Justin Couch used in place of Mr. Flavin's name... That one subsituion
has led to 7 months of tirade and character assassination by Mr.
Flavin...

The important points of Justin Couch's message, which I wanted to relate
to the H-Anim community back in June were that Mr. Flavin doesn't
participate in the process or contribute to any of the groups who he
continually spams posts to... Additionally, my opinion is that his
posts are in fact the worst kind of advertisement for those communities
because outsiders associate his views with the groups he claims to be
supporting...

After Mr. Flavin's initial protests, Dr. Badler responded with this
message:
  http://www.web3d.org/WorkingGroups/h-anim/hypermail/2001/0153.html

Additionally, I responded with this apology:
  http://www.web3d.org/WorkingGroups/h-anim/hypermail/2001/0154.html

Finally, last week, Dr. Badler asked Mr. Flavin what he wants:
  http://www.web3d.org/WorkingGroups/h-anim/hypermail/2001/0296.html
However, Mr. Flavin has yet to respond to this query...

The Humanoid Animation Working Group of the Web3D Consortium was founded
by Bernie Roehl, Cindy Reed-Ballreich, Kirk Parsons, and Stephen
Crampton in 1997... I am absolutely certain that these founders would
agree that the H-Anim Specification would not exist if it weren't for
Dr. Badler's 20 years of human simulation research with JACK (on which
the H-Anim Specification is based) and the countless hours of VOLUNTARY
work which I have put in to further the progress of the H-Anim
Specification...

At this point, I am not sure what would appease Mr. Flavin, but I am
sorry all of you have been bothered by his unrelenting messages...
