We have Windows XP's on some of our notebooks (Dell Latitude 8100). Initially the performance of our Java3D application wasn't good. It seemed that there was no hardware acceleration. We had to do the following things to get things working:
Take the latest JRE (1.3.1_02) Update the video driver from Dell's web site Flash the bios to be compatible with the new driver Then the application works fine.
