Well, while I think NetBeans is great, I will admit it can also use

alot of resources, and some call it slow, though it's fast enough
for me and getting better all the time. The NetBeans developers are
working very hard to both improve performance and reduce memeory
footprint.

One thing you should do, is to disable any modules that you aren't
using. In my J3D work I don't touch XML, JSP's, C/C++, etc. So I
go into Tools->Options->IDE->System->Modules and I disable many
of the modules. This improves start time, memory consumption, and
performance quite a bit. Also don't download (or at least disable
after you DL) any modules from the update center that you aren't
actually going to use.

Also you can edit the Starting and Max Heap size in the ide.cfg
file (in the bin directory) if you have more memory. I haven't
noticed much effect on increasing the Max size, but I find it
starts up a little quicker if the starting size is higher.

Oh yes, and to answer your question from your other message,
NetBeans is 100% Java. (Well except for the program that starts
it all up.)
