Does anybody have experience with multi-platform installers? I have noticed that Java3D uses InstallAnywhere. There is also MultiPlatform InstallShield. What are their pros and cons? Does InstallAnywhere run silently?
Another question: do you normally have to run installation programs with root permissions on UNIX machines? JRE installation has to setup a plug-in to Netscape, Java3D installation has to write jar-files to jre/lib/ext. So, if run by a regular user, would the installer fail to complete the installation?
