I have given all my votes to bug#4458337. I'd ask everybody else who is interested in JDK1.4 and Java3D combination and has some spare votes to do the same thing. If we'd get the bug count to around 60, it would be in top 25 bugs.

There's a regression in Merlin that causes non-double-buffered AWT components to not be rendered all the time when running under javaw. J3Ds Canavs3D is such a beast. More info: http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4458337.html, and http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4664490.html The only 'fix' I've come up with it to listen to various events and force a repaint of the canvas. I repaint on frame activation, mouse clicks, and a couple of other misc ones. The results are hardly suitable for end-users, but it makes developing with it at least semi-tolerable. I'm currently hassling everyone I can about getting this fixed (the 1.4.1 beta doesn't fix it). I encourage you to do the same, as no one at Sun seems to realize that this is a ship-stopping bug (or, at least, no one has ever replied with anything other than 'yes it's a bug'). I even sent them a very nice test case, but never got any response (besides 'yes it's a bug'). I found that some parts of the display area weren't refreshing correctly, leaving squares of gray. It doesn't occur when launching with java. The canvas3D is on a JPanel in a JFrame. I know there are some compatibily issues between Swing and j3d but since there appears to be no trouble when launching with java, it has to be something else. I've got to build an application that holds in a jar for students to use and since javaw is the default launcher for jar's, I must find a way to solve those problems. Are there any issues with javaw and j3d I should be aware of? I'm on a tight schedule so any tips would be great. I can't find anything at the sun's website.
