Although this is off-topic, I would concur that Together is a very nice tool that I use daily for my Java development. I used the free version to try it out, then bought the commercial product. I often have Together and NetBeans open at the same time, using Together to get a good "Design" view, and NetBeans as the IDE. I would recommend the Together community edition as a great way to get started using UML for design.
I know other developers who don't really "Design", they just code as they go. I think personally that this is a mistake, although it depends on the purpose of the code - is it a throw away or single purpose code, or are your objects really more general and applicable to problems other than the one you are working on now? If you want to start to re-use code, a UML tool like Together or Rational Rose (which I tried and liked as well) combined with some sort of formal design process (even if you ignore parts of it now and then) really helps. For me, UML is not an end in itself, it just helps me recognize commonality, and what the relationships are between my problem domain classes and interfaces. My two cents, sorry about being off-topic. This list discusses the Java 3D API, not J2EE. I would highly recommend Together instead of Rational Rose, see http://www.oisoft.com/produkte/together/index.htm. They have a free 'Community Edition' with enough features to do essential UML diagramming. One nice thing with Together is: it works completely on the java sources, there is no external repository. In practice this means: point it to some existing java source and it produces UML class/package diagrams from it. See for yourself. They have enough tutorial material to get you kicked off. regards Georg ___ ___ | + | |__ Georg Rehfeld Woltmanstr. 12 20097 Hamburg |_|_\ |___ [EMAIL PROTECTED] +49 (40) 23 53 27 10 =========================================================================== To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and include in the body of the message "signoff JAVA3D-INTEREST".
