Hi Karl ! In 1998 FakeSpace (www.fakespace.com) offers a VR Workbech (IWB 50) for 60K $ . In my opinion a VR Workbench costs currently 40K $ (without the rendering system). Barcu (http://www.barco.com/projection_systems/) and TAN (www.tan.de) also offers Workbenches.
SGI's Onyx and Onyx2 are used for the rendering system mostly. The entrance price for the smallest version is above 100k $ (2 MIPS 10K or 12K prozessors, ... ). However, it gives a low cost alternative : a linux pc cluster. Most Virtual Environments using SGI's OpenGl Performer and CAVELib for rendering. The commercial Version of CAVELib (http://www.vrco.com/) supports a wide area of immersive environments (CAVEs, RAVE's, ImmersaDesks, ...)and gives a cluster support. In my opinion Hi, I'm trying to get a rough idea of the sort of price you'd expect to pay for VR equipment, high-end of the market(ish). I've looked all over, but none of the websites like to say. I was wondering what kinda price for a VR workbench, and the hardware that would go with it, an estimate, about 5k? 2k? 20k? I don't know. Just so i've got an idea of what to tell the boss! Cheers KP __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
