Reliable & Portable 3d viewing is the intent of VRML & Java. Reliable & Portable 3d viewing is the possible with VRML & Java.
VRML can be animated interatively on the web in a browser with: 1) Java 1.1 ( slower but more portable than Java3d ). 2) Java 2 with Java3d and the Sun VRML Loaders. 3) VRML plugins with VRML EAI with Java 1.1 Interactive animation of VRML based H-Anim avatars ( with moving Joints and Gesture Animations in responce to mouse clicks on VRML Touch Sensors ) is possible -- and I've done it -- with Java3d & the Sun VRML Loaders on both Windows & Linux, in a browser, and out, and with VRML EAI with both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape, using the ~~~ SAME ~~~ VRML data files ... works with all the above three combinations (for some but not all files). VRML animation with Java 1.1 ( no plug-in, not Java3d ): ---------------------------- http://www.frontiernet.net/~imaging/H-Anim_Avatars.html VRML animation with Java3d ( works in a browser & out ). -------------------------- ( works with Windows & Linux ) http://www.frontiernet.net/~imaging/java3d_and_vrml.html VRML EAI: FAQ & DEMOS ( VRML with Java with plug-in Viewer ) --------------------- http://www.frontiernet.net/~imaging/eaifaq.html http://www.frontiernet.net/~imaging/HAnimPoser.html VRML EAI is fraught with portability problems and I've found it to be the least reliable, least portable, most difficult way to do VRML animation on the web. I've done VRML EAI, I have examples on the web that work with Netscape & Exploerer, but I've found 'pure' Java solutions are easier, more reliable, and more extensible. I don't like the using the VRML plug-ins, but I prefer Cosmo to the others, and believe that it is the most spec compliant, and the most reliable for working with both Netscape & Internet Explorer when using VRML EAI with Java. With Java3d and Sun's VRML Loaders I created ---------------------------------- this movie ( .mov ) from the VRML ( .wrl ) file below: http://home.rochester.rr.com/javajava/media/darts_animation_movie.mov http://www.frontiernet.net/~imaging/shout3d/models/H-Anim/darts_animation_VRML.wrl Some have tried and failed to animate H-Anim Avatars with the Sun VRML Loader's and have claimed that their failures *** PROVES *** no one achieve success. Obviously one person's failure doesn't imply others will also fail, and to assert that is the case is un-wise, un-proffesional, un-ethical, and dishonest ... and yet the folks at Yumetech repeat that lie ... VRML animation is fun & easy with Java ( 1.1 or Java3d ). messanger wrote: > > I am being disappointed at VRML97 Specification and VRML > Viewer under MS Windows environment. > > Now I'm trying to progress a Project by using > VRML97, EAI, Swing, JDBC, and JSP. > > While doing the project, I felt painfully the Stupidity of > VRML Viewer Makers as well as the activity of Web3D Consortium. > > Do they really have any idea of What the current version of JAVA is? > > Current Version of JAVA is 1.4 > the problem is that Most of current Viewer can't operate when we > compile under higher version than MS JVM. > > Do you(Viewer Makers) think your browser CAN support current > version of JRE? > > Don't Be Surprised...your browser can support only JRE 1.1.7 > (this JVM means MS Windows JVM, not Sun's) > > Do you think we can see VRML EAI when installing both > Sun's JVM and MS JVM? > > It's an Impossible thing. try it! go ahead. > > Am I a fool to try hard like this? > > or Does Viewer that doesn't work when binding with Current Version of > JAVA have a problem? > > Is Spec just a formality? > > Spec says Binding with Java is possible. ... > They said that "Binding with JAVA" is "Marriage in the Heaven" > oh...are you kidding me?...I can't believe that. > > I'd like ask w3d consortium. > > You (w3d consortium) have to exercise control over Viewer Makers > so as they follow the rule. ... > > Good Viewer(supporting variable enviroment and > programming language) is basis of high quality Contents. > I've made VRML EAI work with Java, but I prefer & suggest you try & use VRML animation with with Java (Java3d or Java 1.1) without using the VRML plug-ins. Try it, you'll like it ! ---------------------- I develop on Linux, and my VRML animation works on Windows, Linux, and the Macintosh, and on The Web. ( Java3d doesn't run on the Mac yet, there I use Java 1.1) but ... with some files the same VRML files work across ... Java 1.1, VMRL EAI, & Java3d with the Sun VRML Loaders with animation ( moving Joints & etc ) & touch sensors. I've done it, and you can too. -- Paul, Java Developer & Web Animator. =========================================================================== To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and include in the body of the message "signoff JAVA3D-INTEREST".
