For future reference, could you please ask questions specific to Xj3D
over on the source list at web3d.org. That's the nominal home for Xj3D
and I'd like to keep this list for Java3D-specific bits only please.

I spent a long time determining which of the distributions jar files
that came with I needed, and I provided that list below.

What you need is dependent on what files you want to load. For example,
we also include 2 other renderers for OpenGL (immersive and embedded) so
for a basic loader for Java3D it is pointless having those in the
classpath. Also, as of the next release, our XML parsing will be fully
functional so you'll need to include those JARs in the list too.

    For Running:
                xj3d-common.jar
                xj3d-render.jar
                xj3d-parser.jar
                xj3d-runtime.jar
                xj3d-script-base.jar
You'll definitely need one of the scripting engine JAR files here if you
have any script content at all in your code. Try one of
xj3d-ecmascript.jar or xj3d-jsai.jar for Javascript and Java scripting
APIs respectively. Note also that the ecmascript JAR will be changing
name shortly to xj3d-javascript.jar as we are going to use
xj3d-ecmascript.jar for the X3D-only variant.

3) The Actual VRML File.

   XJ3D Handles VRML97 files. It doesn't read
VRML1.0 files. If you need to read a simple VRML1.0 file I recommend
the application vrml1tovrml2 which you can download for free here:

   http://synapses.bu.edu/tools/vrml2/vrml1to2.zip

I actually had a bit of difficulty getting some files I thought
were VRML97 compliant loaded via the XJ3D loader.

Depends on who you test against. Xj3D is really anal about compliance to
the specification where all the other browsers are not. They will quite
frequently let through invalid content (Blaxxun is notorious for this).
We don't have complete compliance yet either (still missing a few nodes)
but those that we do we are very rigid in what is acceptable and what is
not.

Anyway feel free to use this info as you like. Again, if you know
differently, please correct me. I hope folks find this useful.
Yes, quite useful. I'll post a formatted and tweaked version to xj3d.org.
