Hi there,

I have a related problem with the demo I'm currently developing. I have a
complex space scene (reflections, shadows, bumpmapping, many alpha overlays
and so on) including a planet, which is made of a lit, textured sphere and
some view-aligned alphas for atmosphere. About 50 seconds after starting the
demo, a fast camera sweep is done and a lot of particles are added (Seen
Alien II? That dropship being launched, atmosphere reentry, funky music?
That's it).

At that moment, the whole lighting system seems to have some kind of
"hick-up", it seems as if all the surface normals of the planet shift by
some amount, and for a moment, the lighting system almost stalls (*but* I
dont have performance problems, framerate is constant at that time). I
should add that this is not the most complex part of the demo: Later, the
dropship enters the atmosphere of the planet, with lots of atmospheric
layers, lensflares and so on, and then no "hick-up" occurs, so simple
overload of the card is unlikely to be the reason.

Perhaps its a driver problem (GeForce4Go). I haven't investigated any
further because I blend to another point of view soon after that, but it
would be definitely nice to know whats going on.

Cheers

Wolfgang
