I haven't looked into that with J3D, but have you looked into the standard
JDK's Robot class? (java.awt.Robot).

Subject: [JAVA3D] Recording the screen

I want to be able to record a playback from a java3d display. The user may
or may not have interaction with the display
but I want to record the user actions in a format that I can use to
replicate the actions. For example, if a user clicks a button
at a certain time, I would like that to show up when I play back the
display again. Any ideas on how this might
be done or any packages to look at? Thanks.
