I got stereo without being in the way fullscreen in the following way:

I installed:

Driver Asus v8420 v29.40b

JAVA VERSION " 1.4.1 " SDK
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1-b21)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1-b21, mixed mode)

Java3D 1.3 OpenGL

Scitech Gldirect 3.0 (OpenGL (DirectX)
Name: Helen Steel
Serial: 00000-10845
After Installing:
Parameter: MAIN: Set Rendering Option: Maximum compatibility
Parameter: Stereo: Application-controlled
                       STEREO DEVICE: VRSTANDARD VRJOY

Directx8.1

Windows2000 Prof.

Monitor LG-Flatron 795FT Plus
