This is very valuable information. It solved the problem for me too. The flickering in my programs was sometimes so bad on certain computers that the GUIs were unusable.

Thanks,

Subject: [JAVA3D] Swing flicker issue ... fixed for me

Hi,

I once had a question/problem with my swing parts would horribly flicker...particularly buttons, sliders, textfields, etc would just

flicker on certain computers. And this was even when I was NOT animating anything....it was so crazy that even zooming, panning

or rotating (basically envoking those behaviors) caused flicker issues. This flicker would result in the swing display constantly swap

between the normal display and what appears to be the display of the previous state....in text fields for example I'd switch 0.0

to 5.5 and the flicker would cause the text field to swap between 0.0 and 5.5 constantly.

ANYWAY,  this page gave me a solution to this problem: http://mindprod.com/jglossflicker.html

Basically they say do the following:

    Java.exe -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true MyClass

Which turns off DirectDraw and instead uses the standard Windows GDI rendering...

Well, it works so I'm happy.
