Hmnmm.... I spot a FAQ question in the making....

Others will answer appropriately, but suffice to say that "zoom" is
dependent on the perspective calculation. That's what the perspective
calcs do - make things smaller when they move away and bigger when they
are closer. Remove the perspective calc and tere's nothing to make the
object bigger or smaller!
