| VRML 2.0 and Java (JDK 1.1.2)
| ------------------------------
| Independant study implementing
| shared virtual environments
|
| In the spirit of DOOM we created a maze game
| to demonstrate a shared environment using
|
| VRML 2.0 and Java 1.1.2 only.
|
| Through the EAI of VRML 2.0 the Java applet
| sends and receives data packets from
| 2 or 3 players.
|
| This could be done more easily with Active X
| or a Java server but we wanted to use the
| mutlicasting recently available in Java 1.1.2.
| Which is more scalable than a Java server and
| far more secure and universal than Active X. ...
|
| Most importantly have FUN.

Football Players in the Virtual Reality CAVE
--------------------------------------------
|
| The CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) is
| currently the most advanced system for
| immersive virtual reality.
|
| The University of Michigan operates such a system ...
|
| A CAVE provides its users with the convincing illusion
| of being fully immersed in a three-dimensional world
| that is computer-generated and presented to the viewer
| in realistic full scale as well as in stereo.

| In a typical training session, the trainee
| (e.g., a quarterback) wears the shutter glasses and
| is fully immersed in the virtual play.
|
| The trainer (e.g., a coach) sits on the side and
| uses a laptop to control the training session.
| A special menu in the Chart Editor program
| (previously used to model a play in 2-D) provides
| all control functions for the CAVE.

Human Models can be animated with VRML and Java3d
using Web3d.org's H-Anim and the Sun VRML Loaders.

hello,

well, i know that every second internet page offers downloadable vrml models
:)
but what i search is a map in vrml from an actual game. the game should be
popular and not to old. the converted maps from quake3 don't work with
diffrent loaders. had anyone success with this? does anyone have a nice
scene from unreal, max payne etc.?

i need it for testing interaction, not for commercial use.

thank you! chris

Above is a vrml maze game implemented
in a university environment using modern tools
and some related VRML / VR stuff at that school,
both using Java.

The resolution may be to not use Scripts
and it may leave the vrml plug-in behind.

In the Web3d.org group a large number of people
have been working on the program of efficiently
animating avatars in a browser and we are able
to do that with Web3d.org's VRML based H-Anim Avatars
and Java3d with the old reliable Sun VRML Loaders.

Lex, other groups at your school have
succesfully combined Java & VRML, and
others all around the world, Nasa does,
I do, do you ?

You can also use VRML & Java 1.1 VRML engines:

or VRML, Java and the VRML plug-ins:
