Those sorts of things are quite feasible. We have recently completed a
project for one of our customers where we create virtual libraries for
users to walk around in. The back end is your typical J2EE system, which
dynamically generates X3D content. The client side is an applet running
Xj3D to do the rendering.
i'm also wondering whether it would take up a lot of bandwidth and
processing power if many objects were created at once while the user
walks through the virtual store. please tell me if this is
feasible...thank you.
That's a design decision. You need to decide how you are going to trade
off responsiveness versus bandwidth. In our virtual library case, where
it was possible to have hundreds of thousands of books at once, we opted
to run imposters and dynamically fetch detail as needed while the user
wandered around.
