Well, it looks like you are right. Although I haven't done the workaround
you suggested, due to the "extra work" :) I can tell you definitely that in
pure immediate mode are no problems. In this case the light are set directly
in the GraphicsContext3D and not attached to any BranchGroup. The light
orientation is changed according to the current view platform transform.

I'm away from the office today and can't look at this (maybe Kelvin
can), but I seem to recall some uninvestigated problems with lights
attached to the ViewingPlatform as PlatformGeometry.  Could you try
attaching them to a separate BranchGroup and see if you get the same
problem?

Could be a quick workaround, although the lights won't move with the
ViewingPlatform without some extra work.
