I've seen *operating system graphic errors* on other graphic cards too, on a S3 Savage IX laptop (also quite old !), and it was always related to high resolutions, mostly because some memory could not be allocated at some very low level. It didn't solve using any version of the driver from the graphic card provider or laptop provider - last update was from 1999. However, I was most fortunate to find on the net a 3rd party graphic driver which is working perfectly for me - updated 2002.
I think you should try to find and experiment with some newer 3rd party drivers from enthusiasts which may work better than the unmaintained old graphic drivers you probably have. You can find a list of 3dfx reference drivers (latest 22 Nov 2000) and 3rd party drivers (latest 13 Feb 2003) including winxp drivers here: http://www.falconfly.de/voodoo3.htm Kind Regards, Florin -----Ursprngliche Nachricht----- Von: John Wright [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Gesendet: Mittwoch, 28. I've seen dozens of these type of odd quirks (not just with Java 3D). Sounds like your work around is to use a more standard video mode or upgrade the Voodoo card. I'd be shocked if Sun Engineers gave you any other response than "it's probably a video card driver bug, don't use 1792x1344 mode". - John Wright Starfire Research > Hans & Susan Horn wrote: > > Yet another data point: I'm using a non-standard resolution > (1792*1344) on > my voodoo3. > When I switch to UXGA (1600*1200) the problem goes away. > > I've been using that high res since I bought the card a few years > back. > > Another interesting thing: everything behaves fine ONCE after > switching back to 1792*1433; at subsequent launches I then get a > different error, with no system-freezes : > > > gd error (glide): HWCEXT_GETLINEARADDR Failed > > > > Hans =========================================================================== To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and include in the body of the message "signoff JAVA3D-INTEREST".
