Hm. I've just learned that my video card GeForce2 MX 200 doesn't support 32 bit Z-buffers. Thanks Alessandro for the test program. Although I see the cube in all 7 boxes, the output of the program is pretty clear: in the case of the 32 bit Z-buffers it has defaulted to 24.
