Well, I'm not sure. java.net is a community thing, sponsored by sun. If you browse the projects, you'll see several projects covering the same topic. One of them is jogl (Java bindings for OpenGL API), and other is java3dgamesdk (Java 3D Game SDK), there is jme (Java game engine built on top of LWJGL) and maybe there are others. Some of those projects are just moved from sourceforge, others are only placeholders. Now if you look at jogl and gl4java, the first thing you'll see is that they are practically identical. The clue is that jogl can be regenerated automaticaly from the headers of the opengl implementation, while gl4java seems to be hand maintained. The downturn is that jogl is client dependent, so that it will have very small chances to be promoted on the java.sun.com site, where "write once, run everywhere" seems to be the logo. On the other hand, Doug Twilleager just said last week that "Java 3D 1.4 is currently in a holding pattern", and that "there will be some more announcements at JavaOne next week which will give developers even more technology choices for building their games". So, let's see what will come out from JavaOne, and comment later.

Look at http://games.dev.java.net/ The jogl project is a Java OpenGL binding similar to gl4java. One of authors describes it at http://www.puppygames.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=38&start=30 Btw: The license they use is BSD-like. -- Ole Arndt http://www.sugarshark.com =========================================================================== To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and include in the body of the message "signoff JAVA3D-INTEREST".
