The calculation is done on a cluster (because of the big amounts of data). Java3D is used later to visualize the results.

the german car-manufacturer Audi has hired a company which simulates car-crashes using - yes! - Java3D.
java3d and something very computal intensive... hmm. Don't understand this wrong, i like java3d, i work with it very day, but this strange. Crash-tests are always run on the same system, with the same OS. It's like car-manu's change their systems every day. Belive me, i had to work for one.
