Assuming you have some experience of java programming, you will probably want to start by downloading and installing java3d and reading through the Sun tutorials.
Once you've done that, I recommend taking a look at the Kev Glass' tutorials over at new dawn software: http://www.newdawnsoftware.com/ and my own effort here: http://www.newview.co.uk/e/tutorials/java3d/index.jsp My tutorial is aimed at getting an animated character moving around a scene, so it should be a reasonable starting point for the project you have in mind. For general advice as problems come up, this list and the games.dev.java.net forums ( http://www.javagaming.org/cgi-bin/JGNetForums/YaBB.cgi ) are probably the best places to ask questions. Good luck with your project, -ben -----Original Message----- From: Discussion list for Java 3D API [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Botha Levente Sent: 14 June 2004 11:59 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [JAVA3D] How to start? Hi all! Some time ago i asked for some help from you about a little java3d project. There were so many errors and misunderstandings that i borred about working with it and i stoped my project. This projects scope is to have something great for "high school graduate". Now i'm triing to restart working on it but i'm thinking to start from zero. Can you please help me with some suggestions ? What i would like to do is the following: To have character (human model created with 3dMax or Lightwave or some 3D software) which i can move (animating hos leggs, arms etc.) in a virtual world woth some objects in it (like houses etc.). It would be nice to have the ability to change the viewpoint (to have first person or third person) and i would like to add some background music. In short: i would like to make some rpg like game (at now wothout any enemys or fighting like actions) with a person just walking in a virtual world. Can you help me starting? How should i create the brancgroup and the animation (last time i tried with behaviors but it didn't worked, this was the point where i stopped) ? Than you all, in advance! Best Regards: Levente Botha ps: forgive me for my bad English =========================================================================== To unsubscribe, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and include in the body of the message "signoff JAVA3D-INTEREST".
