Hello all,
We have just set up SGI's Java3D ver 1.3 in a three-screen CAVE running on an IRIX platform and are experiencing what might be some optimisatiion issues. We have a program that runs almost five times faster on a Windows PC with a 64MB graphics card than it does on our IRIX machine which has 256MB graphics memory and twice as much RAM.
On IRIX, the program keeps on stalling as if it is running the garbage collector every five seconds or so. Also, we only get half the number of textures when we create Shape3D objects.
I have set the JAVA_OPENGL_NATIVE environment param as suggested on a great many sites.
My heap size is running at -Xmx1024m which is twice what it was on the Win PC and still I am experiencing this stalling/texture problem.
Has anyone used SGI's Java3D and is there a way I could optimise its performance?
Any suggestions welcome.
