[java3d] File format for java3D

Hi,

        Can anyone tell me what file formats java3D recognizes ?? And,
is there any low cost/free 3D drawing tool which I can use to draw
primitives or 3D figues, so that I can store them in a file which can
then be opened and used in java3D application ??
