Harold et al,

I just returned from the Web3D/VRML conference in
Germany. There I heard three very encouraging things:

First, that J3D ports will follow Java1.2(Java2) ports
(since it is a prerequsite). Thus expect a port to Linux
in due time. No conspiracies here I think - just much
work on many fronts for the J3D team.

Second, there is talk of a
'Technical Java' JRE superset including JMF (J3D)
so that applets can dynamically load the TechJava
via html 'magic' (as is done now with J1.2 plug-in).
This would help to make use of J3D etc. in applets
more practical and common.

Three, that the VRML/J3D loader (new version just
released) is converging on the complete VRML97 spec
and will probably achieve that soon due to the efforts
of the VRML/J3D working group -

Best wishes.

Mark
