Hello everyone,

I'm happy to report that the Universal Media Element Library (UMEL)
working group name and identifier change that our group voted on earlier
this year has been approved by the Web3D Consortium. Our updated
information follows:

WG name : Universal Media
Identifier: media

The name has been shortened ("Element Library" dropped), and the
identifier changed (from umel), as the work we've done is now emerging
from the technical working group into the general public. Our VRML99
"Sneak Peek" textures have been very well received, and are now mirrored
here in the states and abroad. Later this week an installer for Win95/98
will be released, along with sample source code for browser and tool
vendors. Shortly after that we'll have demo worlds available. As we
continue to move forward our new name/identifier should help to make our
work more approachable and easier to remember.

Our Web site will be updated shortly, and I'll request also that the
following URL become our official site address:

 http://www.web3d.org/WorkingGroups/media/

(I'll request that our current site at
http://www.web3d.org/WorkingGroups/umel/ be redirected to the above)

The name change is already reflected in the main Web3D Working Groups
page:

With best regards,
Aaron
