Non Uniform Rational B-Spline.

(For a comprehensive definition I suggest you take a look on the WEB).

A NURBS is a generalised form of a B-Spline, allowing you to define
practically any curve or surface(including circles - which B-Splines cannot
do) in parametric form.

NURBS curves and surfaces are now becoming the industry standard for
defining 2D and 3D curves and surfaces, and are used heavily within decent
CAD packages.
