It's likely that the object you're reading is very large (meaning, a
large number of triangles).    If you can cut down the number of
triangles in the scene, you'll see a speed-up.

We don't have any writing utilities in Portfolio.

You said "(when it works at all)".  If you (or anyone else reading this)
have an example file that breaks a loader, please send it to us.  This
is the only way we can fix bugs in the loaders.
