Sounds interesting. I'll check into our code, but I'm 90% sure that
we're already attaching to a live chunk of the scene graph.

Also, with further investigation of doing workarounds, I've also hit
another interesting snag and is probably related. If I place the view
platform under a branchgraph, detach the BG then re-attach it, I can no
longer use that view platform for doing a render. Even if I attempt to
reattach it again after reattaching the BG, nothing happens. The canvas
acts as though no viewplatform has been set.
