Hi Tan, I'll try to answer with what little I know about VR gear. More knowledgeable folks are welcome to correct me. Shutterglasses are basically, as the name implies, simply glasses that can shut one eye at a time (make either the left eye or the right eye part of the glasses totally opaque). They work in conjunction with the monitor by refreshing at the same rate as the monitor (usually). The computer monitor, in turn, displays first one view (right) and then the other (left). Hence when the left eye can see through the glasses (and the right eye can't), the monitor is showing the left view. Then both the glasses and the monitor swap eye views. HMDs on the other hand, usually have displays built-in to the gear (like two tiny monitors...or more appropriately, LCDs), each constantly displaying the left view (the left display) or the right view (the right display). They tend to be more realistic (and more expensive), because they can block out anything but the displays, while the glasses can't (you can still look around and see your desk, keyboard, mouse, etc).
