I get that exact same error myself but only on one machine here at my
office. The new SGI NT boxes give me that error.  Basically it isn't your
fault (I think).  I must have spent at least 10 hours trying to work
around it - I wasn't able to solve it, but I do have a workaround.

I discovered that the only way around it that I know is to run my
application as an applet - somehow this opens up a different window.  Of
course if you have any external dlls then you have to enable them using
the java policytool ( but that is a separate problem ).

Another option might be to use a newer version of directx?

I suspect you've encountered a real bug anyway.  Somebody on the Java3D
team is going to have to answer this.
