Job Title: Database Administrator (DBA)


Description:
OUR CLIENT is a leading international public health management firm
dedicated to providing high quality technical and managerial assistance to
public health programs worldwide, is recruiting for a Database Administrator
(DBA) to work with a large centrally-funded Project.

The DBA will administer the back-end databases running the supply chain
management system.. The DBA will report to MIS manager and will work in
close collaboration with the technical staff.

Responsibilities:

·                     Administer Oracle databases, application servers, web
servers, caching servers, proxy servers, directory servers, and clusters.

·                     Install and configure Oracle database, real
application clusters (RAC) and hosted applications under multiple server
setup, for development, test and production environments.

·                     Install, configure, and maintain Oracle Apache,
Webcache, Portal, Single sign-on, and OID servers.

·                     Work with IT support to install and configure
application server based components related to hosting an application. For
example, Apache web server, Oracle form server, Oracle report server, PHP,
Perl, Tomcat, Struts, JSP, Java, Ant, and so on.

·                     Create new database instances, export/import data,
maintain tablespaces, tables, indexes, and other schema objects.

·                     Design, develop and maintain backup systems to ensure
that Oracle databases, application servers, and associated programs and
configurations are regularly backed up, remain available for recovery on
short notice and are redundant to survive various disasters scenarios.

·                     Verify backup fidelity periodically, by restoring data
from backup media.

·                     Develop scripts to apply configuration changes across
development, test and production environments; to monitor performance; to
perform backup and recovery; and to automate routine tasks.

·                     Write stored procedures, triggers, and scheduled jobs
to maintain database and to provide back-end processing to supported
applications.

·                     Ensure service availability by proactively monitoring
log entries, disk usage, memory usage, CPU utilization, network bandwidth,
and other resources.
·                     Tune Oracle databases and application servers to
provide optimal performance.

·                     Work with IT support to ensure secure access to
database and applications by configuring firewalls; limiting access to
servers and folders; managing users, groups, and memberships; and managing
LDAP directories.

·                     Ensure current, secure and stable environment by
applying fixes, patches, and upgrades to all components of the database and
application servers, in a timely manner.

·                     Assist application development teams on database
related issues. For example, designing relational databases, tables,
indexes, constraints, and views; and designing secure, reliable, and
scalable applications.

·                     Coordinate with application specialists to ensure that
hosted applications are properly and securely deployed and accessible to
authorized users and groups.

·                     Keep update-to-date documentation on all configuration
and environment related issues for the database, application servers and
hosted applications. Including usage patterns of hosted applications, peak
load capacity, and related performance matrix.

·                     Interact with helpdesk, hosting provider, and other
service providers.

·                     Actively participate in in-house and corporate peer
groups, share and learn from each other, and lead in efforts to improve and
adopt latest database administration techniques.

·                     Stay current with related technology and industry best
practices.

·                     Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 6 years or Master's with 4 years of IT experience
showing progressively responsible database administration experience.

Required:
·                     Four years of experience in administering Oracle
databases and at least two years of experience with Oracle database version
8.1.7 or above.

·                     Two years of experience with Oracle application server
9i or above.

·                     Two years of experience with Linux operating system,
shell scripts, PL/SQL, and SQL.

·                     Certified Oracle DBA.

·                     Strong analytic and problem solving skills.

·                     Strong verbal and written communication skills.

·                     Ability to work in a dynamic team-oriented environment
but self-managing of own time.

Desired:
·                     Experience in configuring Oracle under real
application cluster (RAC) and stand-by databases using Oracle Data Guard.

·                     Experience in administering Oracle databases hosting
ERP applications.

·                     Experience in administering Oracle databases for a
mission critical, 24x7 environment.

·                     Experience with some of these platforms, languages or
tools- Unix, Windows servers, Microsoft SQL Server, Java, JSP, PHP, and
Perl.

This job requires on-site presence.
