OK. As the test shows, it does revert an earlier fix, but arguably that
earlier fix was the wrong solution to a reported inconsistency.
The earlier test was specific to a particular condition ... using -link
and -d to point to the same value. That's arguably worth checking for in
its own right, but that's a different issue and should have a different
error message.
