I kind of view buying a Mac as a way to get Unix on a laptop. If I got a Windows laptop I'd need to run Linux in VMWare or some such, and my perception is that Linux as the host OS on a laptop is still dicey. But with a Macbook I can open a terminal windows and compile PostgreSQL, run rsync, and do all the other Unixy stuff I'm used to without any hassle.
