Fair enough, but I don't think Linux on a laptop is dicey any longer,
I've been running Ubuntu on my laptops a couple of years now and never
had a problem. Also, Dell is now actually shipping with Ubuntu if you
are afraid of unsupported hardware:

Last but not least, there's the whole ecosystem aspect to it. You do
not have to wait 15 months to play with Java 6. *hint hint* I actually
